A forehead lift, or “brow lift” is usually performed on patients to minimize the visible effects of aging. A brow lift can also help people who have developed furrows or frown lines due to stress or muscle activity. Some individuals with inherited low, heavy brows or furrowed lines above the nose can also achieve a more alert and refreshed look. A brow lift is often combined with blepharoplasty and other facial procedures to achieve a more refreshed look to the area above the eyes.
Forehead lifts are an option if you have a sagging brow or deep furrows between the eyes. Generally, brow lift procedures are performed for patients between age forty and sixty-five, although it may be necessary at an earlier age.
Why Does the Brow Droop?
Eyebrow Ptosis – the result of gravitational and involuntary changes that result in the eyebrows resting lower than their normal position.
Aging – natural effects of aging cause the brow and forehead to lose elasticity and droop or sag.
Environmental – stress, sun, wind and other forces can cause changes in the skin’s elasticity.
Medical Conditions – certain medical conditions such as facial palsy, tumors and asymmetry can cause the eye brows and forehead to sag or droop.
Trans-Bleph Endotine™ Brow Lift
If a patient is having an upper eyelid procedure, such as a blepharoplasty or ptosis surgery and also has a minimal to moderate brow ptosis (droopy brows), Trans-Bleph Endotine™ can be used to raise the brows. This procedure combines the eyelid surgery with the brow lift surgery, without the need for extra incisions, downtime or added cost of traditional brow lift surgery.
Browpexy
Like Trans-Bleph Endotine™, the browpexy can be performed at the time of upper eyelid surgery. “Pexy” means to secure or fix, in the browpexy procedure, the eye brows are fixed at a slightly higher position, taking advantage of the incision made for the eyelid surgery.
Direct Brow Lift
This procedure is used for patients who have severe brow ptosis. With direct brow lift, the excess skin above the brow is marked and excised. Incisions are made to conceal in the natural folds and expression lines of the forehead.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
This is the newest and most commonly used method of brow and forehead lifts. This procedure utilizes small incisions behind the hairline to elevate the entire forehead and brows. Most patients prefer this method because it is not as invasive as other procedures and has a faster recovery time.
Pretrichial Brow Lift
The pretrichial brow lift involves making an incision right at the hairline and benefits patients with longer foreheads and brows. Once the entire forehead and brows are lifted, the excess skin is measured and excised. This procedure generally has the longest lasting results.
Non Surgical Brow Lift
For younger patients and those who would like to attempt a minimally invasive approach to a brow lift, BOTOX®, facial fillers such as Juvederm and Radiesse, as well as, autogenous fat grafts can be attempted. These are treatments that have temporary results and need to be repeated to maintain optimal results. The non-surgical approach to brow lift is not recommended for patients who are looking for a more permanent result.
