Senior Eye Health
A cataract is a progressive clouding of the eyes natural lens, which interferes with light passing through the eye to the retina. In most cases, the development of a cataract is generally part of the normal aging process but is not the only cause. Trauma or injury to the eye, certain medications, diabetes and other less common medical conditions may also cause cataracts.
A contrast sensitivity test is performed in our office to determine how much your vision has been affected by a cataract. When decreased vision affects your everyday lifestyle, a cataract should be treated.
Currently there is no medical treatment to reverse or prevent the development of cataracts. Once they form, the only way to achieve clear vision is through cataract surgery. Additionally, we offer related treatments for secondary cataracts, astigmatism and near vision, as well as advanced lenses that can eliminate your need for bifocals or glasses after surgery.
